It’s Friday afternoon, and you’ve just left your final comment, for the week, on the 10th of the blogs, you regularly read. While heading back to your blog, to answer your few comments, and delete a pile of spam, that same old question, pops back into your mind. Why aren’t I getting great comments, and awesome readers, who participate in conversations in the comments, to my blog? Well chances are, it has something to do with the way your promoting your content. You could get your work, in front of the eyes of those very same readers. Writing guest posts, for those very same blogs, could be the solution your after.
Capture your potential audience through epic content
Writing guest posts, are one of the best ways to have your content, reach the eyes and minds of the audience, that you’d most love to visit your site. Guest posts seem to have become a little unpopular of late, mainly because of webmasters accepting posts which,do little more than take up space on their blogs. Bloggers looking for links, rather than capturing a potential audience, through epic content. This shabby, half hearted method, is not the kind of posts, we are talking about. This is the old skool method of guest posting. Being a remarkable guest blogger, requires you to bring to the table your very best game. Writing Guest Posts is a useful way of gaining a diverse collection of external links, which incidentally are an integral part of how search engines rank websites, blogs and pages.
The Pitch
The easiest way to get a yes, for your request of writing guest posts, is by submitting the site of your choice an article that is complete and ready for publication. Submit the most fierce article that you have ever written. Unique, epic, fierce content that includes a story with a surprise, something humorous, or an exciting experience, is certain to leave the readers eager for more.
Again unique content, never published before on your site, or any other is absolutely imperative. Submitting for guest postings in this fashion is the easiest way of getting a favorable reply.
“Fulfilling these requirements, get far more “yes” replies than asking for the chance to write with no evidence of what you’ll contribute”. says, seomoz.org/blog/21-tactics-to-increase-blog-traffic-2012 “
The same goes when asking a high profile blogger to guest post on your site. Rather than you being carefree to their choice of material, success is more likely when a targeted question, or very specific outline has been put forward for the post.
What’s hot and what’s not
Before writing your epic guest post, check out the site your submitting to and make certain that your topic, would be one that is definitely on the what’s hot list at that particular time.
- Check out the most popular posts for your chosen site
- Whats the age and gender of the target audience?
- What s the language tone, of the other writers?
Get a feel of the conversation through comments and be prepared to return regularly to keep the conversation going, and to answer questions. This is the etiquette in writing guest posts.
Write in a Compelling Way
A key to writing successful blog posts is to show, and not tell. A successful post should appeal to all five senses, show the reader different descriptions. Let the audience see, hear and smell the events. Do not use too many adverbs because -ly words weaken the prose.
Use active verbs not passive. Many blogger use passive verbs when writing because they are describing the past, but active verbs give it more meaning. Consider every word in your article and ask if it is really needed. If it is not, cut it out.
Danny Iny from Fire Pole Marketing.com recently said, in a guest post on Copy Blogger.com, on Writing Compelling Blog Posts, that ” it’s structure, planning, and research that allowed me to write more than 40 posts, more than 80 guest posts, two books, and a lot of other content, all in a single year (2011). It’s the process that earned me the nickname The Freddy Krueger of Blogging”. A fool proof formula, for structuring your blog posts, is the key.
Revise Edit and Revise Again
Read the post out loud while listening for possible errors in grammar. Next check for spelling errors using spell check. It doesn’t hurt to do this exercise twice, as sometimes, errors are missed the first time, plus when you stop and make a correction the spell checker will go away. Nothing could be worse than writing guests posts that are rife with errors.
