Place for everything
When will I be doing this?
You will be sorting items everyday for 15 minutes each day. This will be at a set time that you will need to choose. The sorting days are Monday through to Friday.
Saturday is cleaning day, for the new area that will be home for your newly sorted items.
Sunday will be the day to organize and arrange the items that you have kept because you need them, use them or love them.
Why Should I Group Like Items?
Think back to when you were in primary school. Remember, especially when you were in kindergarten. The teacher always had all of the separate activities, divided up in the category that the activity belonged to.
The art cupboard, the dress up box, the book corner, the toy box and play area.
We call these stations. The area that is set aside for the storage and organization, of the many objects, tools, materials, things, that are associated with that category. For example: the kids arts and crafts materials will belong to the category arts and crafts, and where we store these items. Example; cupboard solely for that purpose, a chest, some designated shelves, again the area is for the sole purpose of the storage of and in some cases also for the use of those materials, and those materials only. This area is now known as the station.
So when little Johnny says; “mum where is my coloring book?” Mum replies, “In the arts and crafts station”.
Why do I have to Call them Stations?
Remember how easily the classroom was to clean up, or how easy it was to find an item that you may have been wanting to play with, back when you were in kindergarten? (Along time ago for some of us I know, including me. 40 years ago about) but I still remember our craft cupboard and how lovely all the colorful pens looked, the Plasticine and the pretty colored cardboard’s, glitters or sparkly pipe cleaners.
We would be playing at one of the stations, and when the teacher told us all to clean up now, it was very easy for us all to put our things away, because, “There was a place for everything and everything had its own place”
Am I right?
So for consistency in your home, and for mainly, when the mum where is ……………………? Are heard, shouted from some distant and remote area of your home, “frantically, by your DS or DD, no matter where you are, your reply will require you to shout back only two words, instead of a sentence.
“Art Station,” you yell back, so as to not have to walk away and maybe burn the frying chips.
Will each category of Items have a Station?
Yes this will be the place for everything, so that everything can go in its place.
Then Where Will I Put Them? Place for Everything
You will have time to think and decide about that, once you have collected together all of the things that will belong in that space.
But hey, you don’t have to do this by yourself. You will find suggestions for great places to set up your areas, from the worksheet instructions that correspond to the particular area.

Organization Domination Members Only Facebook Group
You will also have your “Organization Domination Members Only Facebook Group” to fall back on for ideas and suggestions.
The group will be able to bounce ideas off each other, and report to one another on progress. A pat on the back, a kick up the watoozi, a this vs this decider, is how the groups will be able to help one another.
You’ll also be able to post your before and after photographs and even video’s.
There will be prizes for encouragement awards, for group members, from some of our wonderful sponsors.
More on our Facebook Group soon. For now, you can come over to our RoutineHabit, Facebook Page, and say hi, and let us know you will be doing the challenge once it formally begins.
What Should I Keep?
Clear out the clutter and get rid of what you don’t need or use or love.
As you collect the things, you will need to decide whether to:
- Keep the item [ Does it work properly? If you have more than one, keep the best and give away or throw out the other, unless you know you will run out of the 1st one, pretty soon and will be needing the 2nd one. ]
- Give the item- [ to someone that you know who wants it.]
- Donate the item. [To a charity. They will come and collect the items if you phone them, or you can drop them to one of their collection points.]
- Throw the item away. [Throw it in the trash, or set aside to take to your local tip]
How Should I Sort The Things?
What Happens Once The Box Is Full?
What Happens if I have more stuff for the category and it’s Friday finish time?
You should know by the end of your 15 minutes on Wednesday, how much sorting you have left. If you don’t think you will finish by Friday, which means with only half hour more, you can continue to add an extra 15 minutes to each day, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday that’s an extra 45 minutes, giving you an hour 15. If you need more again, consider adding half hour onto each day.
Some of the categories will have way more sorting and clutter cutting than others. To allow for this, some of the area’s will have two week sorting and de-cluttering period.
When those occur, for example clothes is one of those categories, if clothes isn’t an area where you have an abundance of clutter, you will be able to use the extra time to sort another area. There will be more instructions on this grey area, as we go on.
If there isn’t much left to do, you can continue sorting until you have finished it, ready for the weekend tasks.
If there isn’t too much left you can leave the stuff and go back and continue sorting it after you have completed the tasks for Saturday and Sunday. So that’s do an extra half hour Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
You could just keep doing 15 minutes sorting of that category, extra come the following Monday, along with the new area that you are sorting.
If this method, add your newly sorted items to the area that you completed on the weekend, once you have finished the sorting.
If there is no hope in the world of you doing more that 15 minutes, a day. Keep going with the group. Start on the new category each week, and once this group is complete, you can join with the new group coming through and start working on each area for 15 minutes a day with the new group. Eventually you will get it done.
Anything Else I Need To Know?

How many will you keep? Beautiful borrowed boring or beat. It’s all about the space that you have in your home will your books be in boxes or on display is what you’ll need to know.
Decide, do you keep all your books in a library?
Do you sell the remaining books?
Do you give them away or donate the ones your not wanting to read again?
